What is WaNIC?

WaNIC, the Washington Network for Innovative Careers, is a consortium of seven school districts in the region northeast of Seattle that has been in partnership for 24 years, and shares Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Member districts include Bellevue, Issaquah, Lake Washington, Mercer Island, Northshore, Riverview and Snoqualmie Valley. As a state-approved interdistrict CTE consortium, WaNIC’s primary mission is to provide quality, diverse, and cost-effective career and technical education for all students through interdistrict cooperation.

Courses available to WaNIC students include the areas of Automotive, Biotechnology, Careers with Children, Carpentry, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Drafting, Fire Service, Graphics, Health Sciences, Horticulture, Media Production, Sports Medicine, Radio/TV Broadcasting, Welding/Metal Fabrication, and Information Technology.

The High Tech Learning Centers (HTLCs) are a program of WaNIC that deliver state-of-the-art Information Technology (IT) education to students in the member high schools. HTLC students have the opportunity to learn Programming, Networking, Animation, Web Authoring, and Multimedia at their high school, and in addition, four cutting-edge Distance Learning classes are available to students on-line through the World-Wide-Web, anytime, anywhere.

WaNIC’s goals include:

  • Ensuring student access and opportunities while promoting equity and diversity in programs
  • Providing highly challenging, relevant, specialized courses and programs to students
  • Maintaining and expanding business and industry partnerships and connections

WaNIC programs are always looking for ways to enhance the classroom learning by making connections to the ‘real world’. Students and teachers can benefit from Work-Based Learning opportunities such as job shadowing, internships, mentoring, field trips and guest speakers in the classroom.
